Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a leading cause of global mortality and has a significant impact on patients' quality of life (QoL). This study examines the effect of health coaching based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) on the QoLof CHD patients at the Regional General Hospital Unit (UPT) of Sinjai-Republic of Indonesia
Methods:  This pilot study employed a quasi-experimental pre-posttest design with a control group. A total of 44 outpatient CHD patients were recruited using purposive sampling and were randomly divided into an intervention group (n=22) and a control group (n=22). The study was conducted at the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic of Sinjai Regional General Hospital from July to September 2024. The intervention group received HBM-based health coaching for 9 weeks (5 sessions) in addition to conventional education. The control group received conventional education for 9  weeks. QoLwas measured using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, Independent t-test, and Chi-square tests in SPSS v.26.
Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in the QoL within the intervention group (p=0.0001), whereas no significant change was observed in the control group (p=0.109). There was no significant difference between the intervention and control groups in the pre-test QoL scores (p=0.385). However, a significant difference was found between the two groups in the post-test results (p=0.0001).
Conclusion: Health coaching based on the HBM is effective in improving the QoL of coronary heart disease patients. Integration of this program into healthcare services is recommended. Considering that it was a pilot study, further research with larger samples and longer follow-up periods is needed to strengthen evidence and assess long-term effectiveness.
